Hotels? Sorted. We curate our stays to ensure you bed down in unique spots in great locations. The trip includes 3 breakfasts, 1 lunches, and 4 dinners. And don’t worry – vegans and veggies also dine like royalty. On top of that, EVERY SINGLE activity we list in our itineraries is included in the price; no hidden extras or secret charges. Finally, you’ll get a dedicated tour leader from start to finish. We can’t guarantee they’ll be hangover-free. We can guarantee they’ll be cool as cool can be.
We'll have a driver waiting to pick you up as soon as you stroll out of Bali's big airport. It's usually – traffic allowing – a 40-minute transfer to Canggu on the island's south-west coast. Welcome to one of the coolest towns on the globe, folks. Mixology cocktail bars, digital nomad co-working spaces, artisan bakeries selling avo on toast in all its forms – this is where Bali gets seriously hip. Don't worry, there will be time to hit the beach lounges and whatnot. For now, relax, unwind after your flight, and meet your fellow travellers and guides. Everyone has a meal together in the accommodation to bond, with plenty of cold Bintang beers for social lubricant.
Surf's up on day two. Yep, it's time to shorten the bucket list by hitting the waves of Bali, one of the most legendary places to surf on planet Earth. We partner with a top-notch surf school on Batu Bolong Beach (the main beach in Canggu and a great place for first-time surfers). They'll have you popping up and paddling into green waves before the morning is through. After drying off and a much-needed refuel at one of Canggu's beachside cabanas, we drive up to the iconic Tanah Lot Temple. It's one of the most striking religious sites in Bali, set on a gnarled rock surrounded by lashing ocean waves – expect proper Instagram-fodder photo ops! Come evening, we let Canggu show us why it's one of the hottest nightlife areas on the Isle of the Gods. You'll hit legendary venues like Old Man's or Finns Beach Club and dance the night away.
Bid farewell to the beaches, Ubud awaits. This mystical town is the cultural capital of the island, set amid a sea of emerald-green rice paddies deep inland. You'll get a taste of what's to come on the drive on the way up with a stop at the Tegenungan Waterfall, a dramatic, two-tier cataract where you can swim in cold highland water. After dropping the bags at the hotel, we begin explorations around Ubud itself. First, we'll head north of town to the Tegalalang Rice Fields for a vision of rural Bali – think rice paddies that glow 10,000 shades of green. Second, we'll delve into the iconic Monkey Forest, to wonder at ancient Hindu temples in the company of naughty crab-eating macaques.
Can't function without your morning joe? No worries. Our first port of call on day four is an authentic Balinese coffee plantation. You'll get to taste local beans from the growing region of Kintamani, plus the famous Kopi Luwak, which is said to be the most expensive coffee per gram in the whole world (we'll leave you to discover why, exactly). Appetite all worked up? Great. Next on the menu is a Balinese cooking class in Ubud town. You'll learn how to make proper nasi goreng rice and other dishes. Later, you can hit the Ubud Street Market to shop for souvenirs.
Cruise over to the Gili islands on a high-speed ferry. The trip might take most of the day but that's okay because the reward is one of the most paradisiacal islands in the Indonesian seas: Gili Trawangan. At just a mile wide and 1.5 miles long, it's hardly big. But size doesn't matter when you have a fringing of sugar-soft sands and seas that wash over pristine coral gardens. It's enough to make Robinson Crusoe jealous. We round off the travel day with some chilling on the beach and beers in the local bars.
There are actually three Gili Islands in all. The best way to explore them all in one fell swoop is by boat. So, hop aboard and sail west towards Gili Meno. The second-largest of the trio, it's said to have the finest beaches of the bunch, along with a snorkelling reef on its northwest shore that's packed with rare sea turtles. Next is Gili Air. That's the most authentic member of the chain. Rent a bike to cycle around (there are no cars on any of these islands) to discover yoga studios and organic-food cafes and even more in the way of photo-perfect beaches. The day culminates with a beach BBQ and a hit of the (in)famous Gili T nightlife – it's wild, wild stuff!
We spend the morning (and some of the afternoon) getting back to Bali from the Gili Islands. The aim is the small, salt-washed surf town of Bingin. This is one seriously cool spot, built on a steep cliff face above a dash of lava reefs. You should have some time to kick back on Bingin Beach if you want. Those feeling active can rent a surfboard and hit the barreling wave that’s almost always working here. The evening is set aside for one of the quintessential cultural experiences of Bali. Cue the Kecak Fire Dance. It’s a stirring performance that depicts the stories of the Hindu epics in a mystical temple set high above the roaring ocean.
The destination on our penultimate day is the OG of Southeast Asian surf towns, Kuta. It's a ramshackle place that's packed to the brim with clubs, cocktail bars, and backpacker watering holes. But the night will have to wait because we head straight to the eco-friendly aqua park of Waterbom Bali. Twisting slides, gushing lazy rivers, and splash pools of all shapes and sizes will keep you entertained for the afternoon. Then the party can start, as the whole group hits the beach clubs to mark the end of an awesome trip.
You know what they say…All good things come to an end. So it is with our bucket-list-busting Bali itinerary. Have a long breakfast with your newfound travel pals before bidding farewell. We can help you organise a transfer to the airport if needed.
